Bullying & Conduct Policy

Purpose

Pearl River Soccer Club (PRSC) is committed to a safe, positive, and respectful environment for every player, coach, referee, and family. This policy follows U.S. Center for SafeSport guidelines and applies to everyone at every practice, game, and club event.

Role of Coaches

Coaches are the first line of communication and conflict resolution on their team. Coaches are expected to:

• Build team unity and good sportsmanship
• Address and mediate conflicts between players at the team level
• Keep communication open with players and parents about concerns
• De-escalate situations early, before they require further action
• Report serious or unresolved incidents to PRSC leadership

What Counts as Bullying

Bullying is repeated, intentional behavior that causes harm, fear, or distress to someone else. It includes:

• Physical: Hitting, pushing, tripping, or other unwanted physical contact.
• Verbal: Name-calling, threats, teasing, or derogatory comments.
• Social/Relational: Exclusion, spreading rumors, or public humiliation.
• Cyberbullying: Harassment through social media, texts, or other online platforms.
• Hazing: Forcing someone into harmful, humiliating, or dangerous activities to be accepted into a group.

How to Report a Concern

Please follow this chain of communication so concerns get resolved effectively:

• 1. Report to the coach. Coaches handle minor, team-level conflicts first and will make every effort to mediate.
• 2. Report to a board member if the issue isn't resolved with the coach:

Investigation & Consequences

PRSC investigates every report promptly. If bullying is confirmed, action will be taken based on severity, which may include a verbal or written warning, suspension from games or practices, or expulsion from the club in severe cases. No retaliation will be allowed against anyone who reports a concern in good faith.

Sportsmanship & Team Camaraderie

PRSC places a high value on sportsmanship and team camaraderie. We expect all players, coaches, and parents to treat one another with kindness and respect — strong team spirit and mutual support contribute to success both on and off the field.
