Pearl River Soccer Club (PRSC) Anti-Bullying Policy

1. Purpose

PRSC is committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful environment for all players, coaches, referees, and families. Bullying, harassment, and hazing have no place in our club and will not be tolerated. This policy aligns with U.S. Center for SafeSport guidelines to protect all participants.

2. Role of Coaches

Coaches are the front line of communication and conflict resolution within their teams. They will make every effort to:
Foster team unity and good sportsmanship.
Address and mediate conflicts between players at the team level.
Encourage open communication between players and parents regarding concerns.
Take appropriate steps to de-escalate situations before further action is needed.
Report serious or unresolved bullying incidents to PRSC leadership.

3. Definition of Bullying

Bullying is repeated and intentional behavior that causes harm, fear, or distress to another individual. It can take many forms, including:
Physical Bullying – Hitting, pushing, tripping, or any unwanted physical contact.
Verbal Bullying – Name-calling, threats, teasing, or derogatory comments.
Social/Relational Bullying – Exclusion, spreading rumors, or public humiliation.
Cyberbullying – Harassment via social media, texts, or online platforms.
Hazing – Forcing someone to endure harmful, humiliating, or dangerous activities to be accepted into a group.

4. Reporting

PRSC emphasizes the importance of following the correct order in the chain of communication when reporting bullying or conflicts:
    1. Report to the Coach – Coaches will address minor conflicts at the team level first. They will make every effort to mediate and resolve the issue.
    2. Report to Board Member – If the issue cannot be resolved with the coach, escalate the concern to a board member for further assistance.
Spring Stembridge – Vice President, PRSC pearlrsc@yahoo.com
Dave Ortmann – President, PRSC dortmannc@aol.com
    3. Further Reporting – If the issue persists or is not adequately addressed, contact SafeSport directly at https://uscenterforsafesport.org/report-a-concern/

Please ensure that all parties involved follow this chain of communication to facilitate an effective resolution.

5. Investigation & Consequences

PRSC will promptly investigate all reports.

If bullying is confirmed, appropriate action will be taken based on severity, which may include:
     Verbal or written warnings
     Suspension from games or practices
Expulsion from the club in severe cases
No retaliation will be allowed against individuals who report bullying in good faith.

6. Emphasis on Sportsmanship & Team Camaraderie

PRSC places a high value on sportsmanship and promoting team camaraderie. We emphasize the importance of respectful attitudes and expect all players, coaches, and parents to foster an environment where everyone is treated with kindness and respect. Strong team spirit and mutual support contribute to success both on and off the field.

7. Commitment to a Safe Environment

By registering with PRSC, all players, parents, and coaches agree to uphold this policy. We strive to create a soccer community where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected.
